Holding positions at top pharmaceutical companies such as Ranbaxy (Sun Pharma), Jubilant, Alembic Pharmaceuticals, Hikal Limited, RL Fine Chem, and now with Solara Active Pharma Sciences, Poorvank has garnered exceptional expertise in both APIs (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) and Finished Products. Being at Solara, Poorvank is one of the youngest minds in the pharmaceutical space to lead a Public listed entity as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. Solara is one of the largest pure-play API companies globally and one of the largest API manufacturers of Ibuprofen medicine worldwide, with exports to more than 75 countries worldwide. Poorvank’s expertise spans various areas, including corporate strategy, sales and business development, talent acquisition, operations management, and project management, to name a few.
An alumnus of Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, US and Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, Poorvank also holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bangalore (MSRIT). Poorvank’s journey has been truly inspiring and marked by remarkable achievements. He has traveled to over 45 countries, establishing strong networks and relationships with decision-makers at innovator and generic companies across the globe.
To put things in perspective, the significance of this industry was especially highlighted during Covid times when the security of the supply chain became the most critical agenda for economies across the globe. “No medicine can be made without an API/ Bulk Drug,” he says. Solara supplies its APIs to large innovator and generic companies across markets such as the US, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, Africa, and CIS.
Poorvank’s career at R L Fine Chem Pvt. Ltd. began in 2018 when he became the Chief Operations Officer (COO). The company, based in Bengaluru, specializes in manufacturing niche APIs in the CNS (Central Nervous System) category, including psychotropic substances.
Poorvank introduced several value-creation initiatives at RL Fine Chem. These included optimizing the Product mix, backward integration, market expansion, and most importantly, building the right team to drive growth. Poorvank invested time in getting the right people on board and helping team members realize their potential. Poorvank raised the bar and achieved significant milestones within five years. Poorvank’s team also identified opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry, particularly in the supply gap for raw materials created by environmental challenges in China. R L Fine Chem capitalized on this opportunity by quickly backward integrating critical raw materials, ensuring self-sufficiency and market advantage. Under his leadership, R L Fine Chem has been nominated four times for the “API Supplier of the Year” category in the Global Generics Bulletin Awards, a top-tier award for Pharma Industry.
As the Managing Director and CEO of Solara, Poorvank emphasizes the importance of a collaborative approach and cross-functional teamwork.
